430 Miles and 8 hours behind the wheel

Traffic around Chicago added about an hour and a half but I did stop at another national park, saw some sites, and got in a decent walk/hike at the Indiana Dunes National Park. I initially was going to cross this off my list, but I decided to break up the day and I’m glad I did! The dunes and Lake Michigan were very impressive. Once again the lake is so big it looks like an ocean, however very far off in a distance you could see a couple of cities, including Chicago. The dunes are much bigger than those on the cape and the landscape is a little different with trees, flowers, and grasses mixed in. They used to use this sand to make glass because it is so pure, but they quickly saw that they were ruining a national treasure. You can actually see some of the “valleys” in the dunes from where they removed the sand. the drive from Indiana through parts of Illinois enable me to see Chicago. It has been decades since I’ve been there. The traffic was horrible, but the skyline was impressive. I am currently in a pretty cool campsite in a field surrounded by trees in Wisconsin. They had like four tornadoes in the state yesterday. It was beautiful earlier, but we had another downpour and the wind are whipping rather loudly now. There’s one other camper group on the site and they are smokers so the wind is carrying it all the way over into my tent! Very nice people and they can really talk!

Yours truly arrived at the park… was in the mid 80s

Much of the hike had soft sand, so even though there was not much of an elevation gain, it was a decent workout.
