Nothing but Commotion, but in the end, it was a great decision

As I pulled off the Wisconsin Dells exit, I noticed lots of souped up Civics and geared up older vehicles all revving their engines. I pulled onto the main, 4 lane road surrounded by mini-golf courses, water slides, and a mile of stores and restaurants all crammed together with some looking abandoned. The cars sped around each other, honked their horns, and cut people off. I was in a modern cross between North Conway and Hampton Beach. A far cry from the other places I visited to date on this trip. I later learned it was “Auto Commotion” weekend!

I quickly found my point of interest, the “Dels Boat Cruise.” I had a couple of hours to kill before my desired departure, so I walked around the “Riverwalk” area. It was not San Antonio, but it was informative. Large plaques with distant and current history adorned the entry platform and the entire walk… I wish it was longer and had a better view of the river, but it is nice.

Prior to the cruise, I spoke with a friendly older gentleman who gave me some history and geographical information about WI. I later learned he was the Captain of the touring boat. I also met an incredibly nice couple from Wichita, Kansas! They were doing an extended five week vacation for their 40th anniversary! We chatted about all of the places we’ve been and they told me their honeymoon was at Acadia National Park! One of my and June‘s favorites! This trip has been incredible getting to talk to people, including the woman who is running this campsite on her property, but I need to move along here…

Cutting to the chase about today 😂, the cruise along the Wisconsin River was amazing! Some of the landscape reminded me somewhat of the “Hudus” in Bryce, but with trees and other vegetation. The boat made two stops to very unique areas that are unlike anything I’ve seen. One of the concession attendance told me that in a couple of weeks the place will be packed. They really did a nice job setting up some of the concession stands on the tour.

Bad reception tonight in a very cool HIPcamp, so I’ll try to load videos and pictures, but not sure they will get through tonight…By the way, after I left the tour, there were some really cool cars, some classic, some rare… not just all souped up Civics!

PLEASE…click on the image or paragraph header to start the videos and narratives. People have said there not seeing some pics or videos but, they’re there because I can see them on the web. Enjoy the rest of your weekends!

I wanted to point out that it was in the 90s at the parking lot at the dunes national Park but then I woke up to 49° this morning in central Wisconsin!

Also, they stopped letting people jump between the two rocks at Stand rock. They trained dogs to do it for the tourists!

I’ve learned so much history in each area of my travels that is so interesting but really don’t have the time to put it all down here.

  1. Amazing rock formations! Saw the video of something jumping from Stand Rock but it wouldn’t play again, so glad you said it was a dog. Very cool!
