Majestic!

I am starting to run out of adjectives to describe the beauty I have seen on this trip. It is just so remarkable! The camp owner from this morning in Billings suggested I take a trip down the Gallatin Parkway which goes along the Gallatin river and takes you to big sky resort which is actually Lone Peak Mountain.

Nearly the entire trip, I saw snow-covered mountains everywhere I turned-between valleys and bluffs covered in trees. Part of my journey followed the Yellowstone river. Trains passed by pulling dozens and dozens of cars. And this was all before I pulled into the Gallatin Parkway!

That portion of the drive included, passing through the canyon and along the Gallatin river, nearly the entire way to big sky! The water was really flowing, and there were a number of anglers out there fishing in the river.

They were a number of campsites that were partially full, but not bad considering it’s a holiday weekend. I also saw kayaks and white water rafters along the river.

Then I turned down towards the big sky resort and got some spectacular views! It is quite an impressive area with all sorts of modern shops, a golf course, plenty of restaurants, and bike and running paths among other types of recreation. The people in the town seemed a little on the pretentious side, but I only walked around a little and found a coffee shop. People were not as friendly as everywhere else I’ve been to to date. Maybe it was because I was wearing one of my unimpressive “fat dad” outfits?

My next stop was a Hot Springs along the way to my campsite. It was actually more crowded there than some of our old pool parties in Brentwood! Lol I think the pool was smaller and it was just not my scene. However, the best was yet to come!

As I continue to drive to my camp in Pony, Montana. I kept getting closer to this mountain range. I stopped and took pictures a number of times along the way, but then realized that this ranch is right at the base of the snow covered mountain range! I can’t believe how fortunate I am! That’s enough. Time for pictures and a couple short videos.

Lone Peak, which is the ski Mountain at Big Sky and the golf course there.

Some of the shops at Big Sky just away from downtown.

Some rams I saw both going into and coming out out of the Big Sky resort.
The Gallatin River and surrounding Canyon leaving Big Sky
View of the entrance to the Norris Hot Springs. It was very crowded probably due to the holiday and it being a Saturday. I was a no go!

The quick running creek that runs along this property and right behind where my truck will be parked. Hopefully the noise will lull me to sleep.

This is my completely un-obstructed view of the mountains. I feel like I could reach out and touch them!
Another view of the ranch. Just unbelievable! The owner is dropping off some cattle in Oregon. Grass fed. I bought a pound and I am waiting for her to deliver it probably tomorrow!
Me with the mountains in the background! It’s very warm out now, so I’m getting a little bit of sun!

I meant to mention that I planned on going on a gondola ride for White river raft, but was too late setting up the raft and the gondola is being updated so I was stuck just enjoying that view!

  2. OH MAN!!!! Awesome! I am so glad you are experiencing this. Having spent almost 10 years in Montana I know how big your heart gets seeing and experiencing these things. Lots to see. Too much for one trip. But take your time, take a deep breath and try to take it all in. It’s an amazing place. In every way. If you can let it, it’ll slow you down. I got captivated by one valley for 10 years. Cheers Tim!! I’m truly so excited for you on this adventure!!!
