I decided to continue posting for a day or two. No cell service at my campsite yesterday so here you go;
Yesterday morning, we got up early and drove to Missoula and June flew home (she had a nightmare of a layover and flight to Boston, but that is a story for another time). It was a short, but excellent vacation and it was nice to be able to see her and have a companion to enjoy the majestic sites and sounds of this area of the country. We were not disappointed on the drive from Columbia Falls (our cabin location) to the airport in Missoula.
After I said my goodbyes to June, I continued to head east, as I decided to get home rather than extend my journey westward. I went to the Lewis and Clark State campground near Bozeman, where there are some caverns by the same name. Rather ironically, Lewis and Clark actually never discovered the caverns. The government gave the caverns that name when they took over that part of the land, but there is absolutely no evidence that they enjoyed these caverns. They were in the area so I guess that was close enough to give the caverns their name!
There are a couple of interesting stories as to how the caverns were first discovered and taken advantage of but they really have done a nice job with the information center and nearby campground.
I’m headed east to Billings now for a hike and then plan on ramping up the drive east. The weather does not look good for the day I planned on being at the Teddy Roosevelt National Park. I’m at crossroads where I would head north on route 94 or south on route 90. The 94 route would add a few days and it’s been three weeks since I left home. It will be about another week for me to get home after I stay at a campground tonight.
I had a brain freeze the other day when I reported I’ve driven 3300 miles. It was actually 3800 miles at that point and I’ve now driven 4200 miles total. I had a great time, but it really is time to get home and enjoy the rest of spring and summer there!

I would say Montana is the most beautiful state in all of my experiences which include at least a dozen national parks. There is so much to see and do if you are an outdoors person.
