I woke up in Billings, MT and now sit once again in Sioux Falls for the evening. Apple Maps initially indicated the drive would be 10 hours. Well, that is if you drive the 80 MPH speed limit the entire way- believe me.. the natives use all 80 and then some! As a result it took me 11 hours and 15 minutes.
I chose to drive about 70 MPH the entire way for two reasons; that is the recommended top speed with the roof top tent, and I wanted to save some money on fuel. This plan worked as I didn’t lose the tent and I averaged almost 24 MPG the entire trip including my gear, going up and down the Mountains, frequent picture and bathroom breaks, and I had June for 5 days.
I’ve driven over 5100 miles and over 700 just today! I woke up to a beautiful sunrise in Billings, had coffee, packed up, and was on the road by 6 am.
The day was sunny and in the mid to upper 80s the entire trip. My thermometer registered 91 at one point. The beauty and great tunes helped pass the time.
I left Montana and hit Wyoming. What a beautiful state. I had forgotten how beautiful…I’ve been to Yellowstone, Zion, Bryce, Jackson Hole, and the Tetons… WY comes in a very close second to MT as my favorite!
I was able to revisit some of my memories from earlier in the trip as I noticed Devils Tower in the distance to my north and the Badlands to my south. I also passed signs for other highlights such as Mt. Rushmore and Wall Drug! 😬
That’s it as I will be logging many more miles tomorrow and the following 3 days. I’d like to get home by the end of the week. I’m sure I’ll do some type of trip recap when I get settled at home.
